The article "The Case Of The Moonlighting Physicians" by Chet Williamson reveals the source for Virgil Finlay's famous portraits of Jules de Grandin and Dr. Trowbridge, a laxative advertisement. The text is complemented by the editor Robert Weinberg by quoting the praise from Seaubury Quinn in a letter tot Virgil Finlay, as reprinted in Fantasy Collectors Annual ~ 1975.

The advertisement appeared in several pulps in the Munsey chain, amongst others, "Railroad Stories" October and November 1936, and "Detective Fiction Weekly", November 1936.
