Leonard Nimoy as Spock
The first publication of the Virgil Finlay drawing of Leonard Nimoy as Spock was in Worlds of If, Vol. 18, No. 9, September 1968, on page 48. The illustration accompanies the poem 'The Elf in the Starship Enterprise' by Dorothy Jones.

Virgil Finlay drew his pen and ink portrait of Leonard Nimoy as Spock presumably working from a publicity still from an early promotional photoshoot. Judging by the clothes and the wide black collar, the photoshoot is the one that the Site My Startrek Scrapbook places before or after the production of the second pilot, but before the first regular episode was filmed. It seems that the "in-between" design of the custumes with the wide black collar and straight-edged rank stripes on the cuffs were worn only for the publicity stills.

The drawing by Virgil Finlay was apparantly also used for the cover of a mini-convention magazine in the mid-70's.
Emmanuel Maris later issued a postcard and a poster, in various formats.
