The silkscreen poster shows a detail of the drawing 'Conquest of the Moon Pool' by Virgil Finlay, originally published in Fantastic Novels Magazine', 1948. The silkscreen poster is limited to 2500 copies, hand-signed and numbered bottom-right by Alton Kelley and was originally made for the Spring Tour 1995 of Grateful Dead.
The poster is offered for sale usually (in 2011) with a reference to the skeleton drawing "Skeleton in the Rubaiyat" by the 19th century illustration by artist Edmund Sullivan. This is a clear mistake. That drawing was used in the poster "Dead Skeleton & Roses" for Grateful Dead by Stanley Mouse.
The uncut proof of the poster was created to promote a four-venue Grateful Dead concert in the spring of 1994. The mini tour commenced on May 19 in Las Vegas, stopped in Portland and Seattle and culminated with three shows at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California from June 2-4. The silkscreened, uncut proof sheet was designed by late Alton Kelley. The poster proof measures approx. 22 1/2" x 35"
