The fifth annual Westercon was also known as Sou-westercon and was a two day convention that was held in San Diego, California on June 28 and 29, 1952. The program book came with a souvenir booklet titled "A Cross-Section of Art in Science~Fantasy". The photo-offset printed booklet contains 24 pages and has fifteen examples of science fiction art, including work by Neil Austin, Morris Scott Dollens, Virgil Finlay, Frank R. Paul, Chesley Bonestell, Alexander Leydenfrost, Henry Eichner, and William F. Nolan (two pieces).

At least two pieces by Virgil Finlay are included.

The 'Atlantis' illustration was published in American Weekly. The left half of the 'Atlantis' illustration was used for a postcard by Underwood-Miller.

The complete illustration appeared in the The Collectors's Book of Virgil Finlay'. It was also issued as a litho print.
